Web Sites We Geeks Love....
There comes a point in every woman's life, when you simply have to break down
and go shopping - and chances are, if you are running a website, your shopping
forays will sooner or later include looking for scripts. Here are a couple of the
best and easiest to use resources we have found:
(All links open in a new window, just close the window to return to this page)
Hotscripts.com
http://hotscripts.com
Our favorite because it is not buried in flashing ads, and it's easy to navigate.
One word of advice though, be careful though if you are a script junkie, as the
"new this week" section can become addictive.......their newsletter is a good
resource too
CGIScript.net
http://www.cgiscript.net
These folks have been around a long time, and have great free tutorials, as well
as a few free scripts. But they also have some excellent and well priced scripts
that are unique and very reasonably priced. Most are easy to install - but they
also offer installations for a reasonable fee as well as custom scripting. And let's
face it - sometimes it is worth it to let someone else play with the codes for
awhile!
ScriptSearch.com
http://scriptsearch.internet.com
Another great place to spend an afternoon when you should be doing something
else - but you never know what you find here - always lots of new submissions
just not quite as easy to get around as with HotScripst, but one of the directories
that gets more of the newer script submissions. It is an Internet.com site, too,
so it also has links to all of the other terrific Internet.com web respources
Learning the Stuff You Need to Know....
One fact of life - if you are running your own site - you never stop learning, which
is not a bad thing really, it keeps those brain cells in peak shape (more or less....
that and a lot of caffeine most days). Here's our top tutorial sites, both free and
for fee...Unless otherwise noted - the sites below are general sites with a broad
range of tutorials available. (And yes, we tried to avoid those "free" webmaster
"resource" sites that are really just trying to trap traffic so they can bury you in
in moustraps of undesirable ads! But things can change - so if you do get hit with
a pop-under or 97, please don't blame us - we tried!)
Lynda.com
http://www.lynda.com/
This is not free (about $25 a month) BUT if you need to get up-to-working-speed
on a program quickly and go brain dead reading manuals like most of us here do
the Lynda.com video tutorials are well worth the cost. In fact - it's cheap when
you consider time spent trying to figure it out on your own and taking a local class
most of the time! Covers most major software and fee includes access to all
videos
Good Tutorials
http://www.good-tutorials.com/
All PhotoShop, all the time! This is really one of the best sites for free PS
tutorials ever - Good detailed but easy to follow lessons that are specific to a
to the given project; i.e. pick the graphic that you want to create from their
hundreds of samples, and the tutorial walks you through every step from start to finish!
WebMasterTools Central
http://www.webmastertoolscentral.com/programming
The Java Boutique
http://javaboutique.internet.com/doit.html
Also by the folks at Internet.com!
PHP Builder
http://www.phpbuilder.com/getit/
WebDeveloper.com
http://webdeveloper.com
Another great resource from Internet.com - full of articles and tutorials on the
latest great techniques and products for web development
