If you have never been your own boss before, the concept is both intriguing and terrifying at the same time. Being self-employed sounds "glamourous" but as anyone who IS self-employed will tell you, it's not always easy. Most of us try a lot of different things before we find the right combination that "fits".

If you are wondering whether or not you have what it takes to join the evergrowing family of online entrepreneurs, here's some good questions to ask yourself.
Keep track of the questions you answered "yes" to, then see what the answers mean at the bottom of the page.

1) Do you dread Monday mornings?

2) Do you often resent doing the extra things at work that you used to enjoy doing?

3) Are you more afraid of failing than starting??

4) Are you worried that you might pick the wrong business for you?

5) Do you always seem to come up with a new reason not to start your new venture?

6) Do you feel you need to know everything possible about your future business before you can get started?

7) Do you watch the clock more than you used to at work?

8) Do you have difficulty following through or finishing projects?

9) Are you overwhelmed by the possibilities when you try to decide exactly WHAT kind of business venture to pursue?

10) Are you concerned that you know too little about starting or running a business?

11) Is fear or dislike of marketing or selling stopping you from believing you could be your own boss?

12) Are you letting friends' and family members' fear of the "unknown" affect your own desire to do something different with your life?

13) Does the fear of change paralyze your efforts to achieve your dreams?

14) Do you know what you want to do but don't know how you could support yourself doing it?

15) Do other priorities keep getting in the way of your plans for success?

16) Is it hard for you to make decisions and then to stick with them once you do?

17) Are your plans to start your own business on hold because you lack the funds necessary to make a go of it?

18) Do key people in your life (spouse, family, friends) pooh-pooh your desire to start your own business or even oppose you?

19) Does the career that you once enjoyed now seem tedious and unfulfilling?

20) Do you worry about job security and retirement?

How Did You Score??

There are no wrong or right answers here - the very fact that you are here, and that you took the test means you are already half way on the path to being your own boss - but here are some clues to understanding why you answered the way you did, and what it means:

If you answered yes to Questions 3,12, & 18:
The approval of your friends and family are very important to you. You listen closely to their opinions and advice. There is nothing wrong with this! But look closely at their lives - are they living the way you want to live? Is your desire to do something different from their chosen path making them uncomfortable about the dreams that they never pursued? Friends and family mean well, but who knows more about what you want to achieve - you or your friends? Listen to their advice, accept it graciously, but if you know in your heart that you want something more or simply different - than pursue it with all of your heart! And guess what? You will be hard pressed to find a lot of successful people that don't have more failures than successes under their belt! The good news about the internet? If you don't like the choices you made the first time around - you can change everything in the blink of an eye! It's an adventure - enjoy yourself!

If you answered yes to Questions 1, 2, 7, 19 & 20:
If you no longer look forward to going to your current job, or if the career that you worked so hard to achieve is no longer satisfying, exciting and fulfilling, it's time to start looking at changing something in your life to get the sparkle back! Life is too short to not enjoy how most of us spend a large part of our waking hours! Today's corporate world can be a frustrating, competitive, and back-stabbing environment to work in. Add to that the fact that you can nolonger count on job security or your pension fund - there is not much reason to stay if you have other options!

If you answered yes to Questions 4, 5, 13, 15, & 18:
You are pretty normal if you have a bit of a fear of change! And the enormous amount of possibilities available online today are overwhelming to almost any one when first starting out. A good trick to help fine-tune the decision-making process is simply to sit down with pen and paper and create a list of your personal "hot 10 topics". These could be your hobbies, or topics that you are interested in - just write down the first 10 items that really interest you that pop into your mind. Then quickly rank them in order of interest to you personally - do it "instinctively", don't stop and analyze every item! Now - put each of the top 5 terms into Google and see what possibilities come up! Chances are that an Affiliate program or MLM opportunity will be advertised or listed for just about every item on your list. You still might not find the "perfect" venture for the long term - but you will probably find something to at least get you started!

If you answered yes to Questions 6, 9, 10, 11, 14, & 16:
While it's a great idea to read everything you can about what you want to do - don't use learning as an excuse to put off doing! Don't let yourself get caught up in the "paralysis of analysis" - a deadly disease to an entrepreneur! As long as you are not leaping into a huge monetary investment, it is often better online to dive in and learn as you go! Start small, keep your risk minimal and you will be amazed at how quickly you will learn once you are actually doing. The wonderful part of MLM is that you have real live people that are willing to share their experiences and work with you to help you succeed - since the better you do - the more their business grows, too!

If You Answered Yes to Question 17:
First of all - is lack of funds really the reason, or is it something else? You can start with Affiliate programs with virtually no money - just your time and brainpower. MLMs usually require a small investment - but could you find the money if you simply changed your lifestyle a little? Brownbagged your lunch? Rideshare to work?

Almost anyone is actually capable of being their own boss - but not everyone is capable of putting forth the mental, emotional and physical effort to do so.

It's all about deciding whether you want to control your life and create your own lifestyle - do you want something better for you and your family - or are you satisfied to let your life stay the same??
