Business Grants For Women: Fact or Fiction
We get emails everyday asking if business grants and other types of "free" funding are available to help launch a small women owned business.
It is almost impossible to give a flat "yes" or "no" answer. That's because although as a general rule, grants are NOT available for normal expenses of launching or running a business, there are in fact some types of businesses that DO qualify, either because of the location or type of business. Additionally, you might qualify for funding that would pay for an additional employee, or training. That grant money represents money you would otherwise have to pay out of pocket. We know of people that have received grants totally unrelated to their core business - but this freed up other funds that could be used in the business instead.
So don't give up simply because you cannot find a grant specifically for your business. Check out every resource that you can find and keep an open mind. There might be a different type of grant that you qualify for indirectly. And getting that grant money can cover some of your current personal or educational or child care expenses, allowing you to have enough extra funds on hand to get the business going.
Here are some resources for grants, loans and other sources of funding for your business in your own state. Check back frequently as we are will be adding to these pages on a regular basis as come across new funding opportunities for your business!
We are also focusing our research efforts on the hard to find grants and loans that are sometimes offered through private and business foundations.
