Business Grants For Women: Fact or FictionWe receive emails everyday asking if grants and other types of 'free' funding is available to launch a business. It is almost impossible to give a flat yes or no answer, because although as a general rule, grants are NOT available for normal expenses of launching or running a business, there are in fact some types of businesses that DO qualify, either because of the location or type of business. Additionally, you might qualify for funding that would pay for an additional employee, or training, that you would have to pay out of pocket otherwise. I know of people that have received grants totally unrelated to their core business - but this freed up other funds that could be used in the business instead. So, don't give up simply because you cannot find a grant specifically for your business - check out every resource that you can find and keep an open mind. There might be something else that you qualify for, that would cover some of your current personal or educational or child care expenses, and would allow you to have enough extra funds on hand to get the business going. Although true Federal Grants are rare, a lot of federal money does trickle down to local and state programs, so local agencies are a good place to start the search for local programs that offer grants, loans and other types of financial aid and assistance for your business.....
