Decorations for You

Every year there are holiday decorations hanging as early as late October and taken down in January. Who does this? You could! Offer a service where you hang up the decorations and then take them down when needed. For small jobs, charge $30 and larger ones, $30 an hour. You could offer this service to businesses and homes alike. You could even charge extra if someone wants you to get the decorations for him or her. You will probably do best if you use bulk-mailing flyers as your marketing strategy, since this will be a local service.

This could be a lucrative business idea for you if you have the needed skills for hanging holiday decorations. It takes a person that has good balance, patience, and no fear of standing on tall ladders or roofs. If you enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the extra money at the end of the year, this could be a fun venture by offering your services.

It is phenomenal how early some businesses and people start displaying holiday decorations. I started seeing decorations in stores for sale in the middle of the summer this year. Stores don't usually carry items like these unless customers are requesting them that early. This could allow you to make quite a bit of money for at least 4 or 5 months out of the year, maybe even 6 months of work, if you are offering to take the decorations down, and packing them up, too. Then, there are also other holidays through- out the year, that might not be as popular, but they could offer you work also if you want to pursue a year-round business in this field.

Many people hate the burden of this yearly chore and will readily welcome the opportunity to pay you to do the hanging of lights and ornaments for them. For small jobs, you could charge $30 and for larger ones you can ask for about $30 an hour. Just make sure that the jobs you accept don't require building permits to accomplish them, unless you like that sort of job. Then make sure you have the needed permits before you start. You may need to check with your local authorities on the requirements for your area.

You can offer your services to businesses and homes alike. You can even charge extra if someone wants you to purchase the needed decorations for them. Just make sure that you know their budget and they are specific about what they want, before you make the purchases and hang them up. Carrying an album with pictures of jobs that you have already completed can help your customers choose what they prefer you do for them.

The best way to find your customers will be by sending out bulk-mail flyers to as many potential customers as you can. If this will cost too much money for you to invest at the beginning, you can offer the flyers by hand, canvassing neighborhoods and business areas that you would like to offer your services in. Once you start hanging lights and ornaments at neighboring businesses and homes, people will notice you and be curious. Take advantage of their curiosity and make sure that you are able to advertise your services in some way while you are working, by displaying advertising either on your vehicle or by installing a small temporary sign near you, while you are working.

Remember that word-of-mouth is an excellent advertising device also, so encourage your customers to advertise for you and offer them a discount, or free decoration, or something, for each paying customer they refer for your services. If they are happy with your work, they will love passing on the information for you, so make sure that you leave a business card with them when you are finished, or a coupon, or something that they can pass on to interested businesses, friends, and neighbors. You will be happy that you did!
